Charities Get Olympic Goods
SLOC today gave a big gift to the charities of Utah. It will give away more than four-million dollars worth of itmes used during the Winter Games.
|

(Apr. 3, 2002)------ This SLOC contribution to communities across the state will be a great benefit to the homeless, the disabled, seniors, and many more. News Specialist Jed Boal reports.
The Organizing Committee originally thought it would have to sell the goods. But careful management of funds has enabled SLOC to give the stuff away.
It includes a lot of household items used at the Olympic Village and other venues-- four million dollars worth.
- 1200 beds
- 140,000 pieces of linen
- 3,000 appliances, including 800 refrigerators, most of them brand new and still in the box
- More than 700 washers and dryers
- 800 microwaves...most of them are new, too.
In the coming months, SLOC will distribute it all throughout the state to non-profit organizations in need.
Fraser Bullock/SLOC Chief Operating Officer: WE'VE HAD SUCH GREAT SUPPORT FROM THE COMMUNITIES OVER THE YEARS. ALL THE SUPPORT WE'VE HAD, NOW IT'S TIME TO GIVE BACK.
Non-profits can fax applications to SLOC during the next two weeks.
The Organizing Committee will review the applications and distribute items fairly throughout the state.
The Utah Nonprofit Housing Authority will coordinate the distribution along with Eagle Ranch Ministries and the Salt Lake Community Action Program.
SLOC has been able to manage its finances and repay its debts. That's why it can give back to the community now.
