Washington Square Party
Thousands of people gather at the City County Building to kick off the Downtown Festival. The party celebrates the arrival of the Olympic torch, but continues through the Olympics.

(Feb. 7, 2002)------The Downtown Festival happens at Washington Square-- location of the City and County Building-- and it's free.
The festivities include food and drink, live entertainment and pin trading.
The Olympic torch will arrive there this evening, between 10 pm and 10:30 pm, and spend the night.

No event parking is available. Organizers are asking people to find the nearest park and ride lot and ride the Olympic shuttle system to the downtown area. The shuttles begin operating at 4:30 this afternoon. You can find the lot nearest you at www.utahcommuterlink.com.
