(Jan. 5, 2002)------ Fifty-six Americans came to ski their strongest and shoot their sharpest, but only eight qualified to race against the world next month.
Men's Team
Lawton Redman, Heber City, Utah
Jeremy Teela, Anchorage, Alaska
Jay Hakkinen, Kasilof, Alaska
Dan Campbell, Hastings, Minn.
Utah's own Lawton Redman will be competing on the men's team along with three other teammates.
Women's Team
Rachel Steer, Anchorage, Alaska
Kara Salmela, Duluth, Mich.
Andrea Nahrgang, Wayzalta, Minn.
Kristina Sabasteanski, Standish, Maine
The women will be lead by Rachel Steer and Kara Salmela, who will be competing in her 2nd Olympics.
She hopes the Americans will embrace the sport as the Europeans do.
KARA SALMELA/U.S. BIATHLETE: "WE GET EXCITED TO GO OVER THERE AND COMPETE AND WE JUST HOPE THAT THE OLYMPICS HERE WILL MAYBE OPEN SOME PEOPLE'S EYES."
All biathlon events will take place at Soldier Hollow February 11th through the 20th.
