Medals Plaza Construction Begins
If you've been downtown lately, you've probably seen the construction that proves the Olympics are getting close.

(Dec. 8, 2001)------What will become the Medals Plaza is just across the street from us here at Broadcast House.
This week, crews started on the scaffolding.
When it's finished, three large grandstands will face a revolving stage.
Twenty-thousand people are expected to gather at the plaza each night, to honor the winners of each event.
And they'll bring an international flare with them.
Grant Thomas/SLOC Vice Pres., Venues: THE SCANDINAVIAN COUNTRIES ARE INTO WINTER SPORTS, AND THEY USUALLY BRING THEIR FANS AND THEIR BANDS. YOU'LL SEE SOME OF THAT IN THERE.
Elsewhere downtown, a Navajo Nation Pavillion will become part of Gateway's Legacy Plaza.
Anheiser Busch will host parties at the Gallivan Center.
And celebrations like these are expected just about every night at the City and County Building.
