Torchbearers STORY INDEX: Olympic Torch On The Way! Torch Relay History Facts: 2002 Torch Relay Torchbearers (Dec. 2, 2001)------SLOC announces 7,200 individuals chosen to carry the Olympic torch next February. These are the names as provided by SLOC. In addition to the 7,200 torchbearers selected, 4,300 torchbearers were selected through programs involving the Olympic family, which includes sponsors, providers, Olympians and other athletes from several U.S. Olympic national governing bodies. List of Utah Torchbearers Southern Utah Central Utah Northern Utah Wasatch Region Great Salt Lake Organizers originally planned to announce the list of torchbearers on Sept. 17 in New York. Now, organizers say the torch relay will be linked to the terrorist tragedy, by naming 100 torchbearers to represent the heroes of September 11.
