Hannah Storm: NBC Host Earns Top Spot
Her name may just fit her style. NBC host Hannah Storm has earned her way to one of the top spots in sports broadcasting.

(Nov. 10, 2001)------News Specialist Sammy Linebaugh talks with Hannah Storm about 2002's new sports, and what we can expect from the women of the Winter Olympics.
"HI, EVERYBODY. HANNAH STORM ALONG WITH JOHN SALLY AND PETER VECSEY..."
From NBA playoffs to Summer Olympics in Sydney, Hannah Storm has made a career of covering sports, earning assignments in a business where she's often one of the boys.
Hannah Storm/NBC Host: "IT'S WONDERFUL TO BE ABLE TO JUMP INTO THESE INDIVIDUAL WORLDS OF SPEED SKATING AND FIGURE SKATING AND SNOWBOARDING, AND THINGS THAT WE DON'T NORMALLY GET TO COVER."
2002 will be Storm's fourth Olympics, but her first time hosting a Winter Games.
"3,2,1. JOIN ME AND THE KSL EYEWITNESS NEWS TEAM AS WE BRING YOU ALL THE ACTION OF THE 2002 OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES."
With promotions shot and pictures taken, she's looking forward, she says, to watching history in the making.
Hannah Storm/NBC Host: "WOMENS HOCKEY IS GOING TO BE ONE OF THE GREAT THINGS IN THE OLYMPICS. IT'S THE FIRST YEAR FOR WOMENS BOBSLED."
In fact, the only Winter Olympic sport women won't compete in this February is nordic jumping.
And Storm says NBC's coverage will reflect that, with more women announcers covering competitions.
Hannah Storm/NBC Host: "THAT MEANS MORE WOMEN SPORTSCASTERS. THAT MEANS MORE GIRLS PLAYING SPORTS, WHICH IS CRITICAL FOR THEM. I JUST FEEL SO GOOD ABOUT THE EVOLUTION, ABOUT THE WAY WOMENS SPORTS IS GOING."
Her interest in womens sport is more than just a job.
Hannah Storm/NBC Host: "I THINK I'VE SORT OF GOTTEN USED TO BEING WITH ALL THE GUYS, AND THE FUNNY THING IS, I'M WITH ALL GIRLS, BECAUSE I HAVE THREE DAUGHTERS."
Storm is married to NBC commentator Dan Hicks, who will also be here in 2002 covering speed skating with gold medalist Dan Jansen.
It's not many kids who can watch mom and dad while they're at work.
Hannah Storm/NBC Host: "THEY UNDERSTAND ABOUT THE OLYMPICS, AND THEY HEAR THE NBC MUSIC SPORTS THEME ON AND THEY GO RUNNING TO THE T.V. THEY GET IT."
And this working mom hopes what they see will help them understand just what's possible.
