Most Recent 2002 Olympic Comments:
Denver Post -- Mericia of Kaysville, UT

It's amazing how quick some journalists are to slam something they have no direct knowledge and facts about. He gives a bad name to journalists everywhere. It is amazing to me the Denver Post would publish something that expresses such bigotry and ignorance-unless they're trying to compete with the national Enquirer. Perhaps this gentleman, and I use the term loosely, should consider working for the Enquirer; doing something worthwhile like finding Elvis or chasing aliens. Or perhaps he thinks he can do better at directing traffic than Mitt Romney?
Olympics -- Jan of Midvale, UT

Watching the flag enter the Olympic Stadium, was the first tears I shed that night. The message was clear to everyone, except the jerk from Colorado.
What a shame, It appears that he does not understand the concept of
Response to Olympic detractors, whomever or wherever. -- Tony of Centerville, UT

I have something to say to all the detractors of the Olympics in Salt Lake City. Ordinarily, I'd have specified them as Olympic detractors or Mormon-bashers or just plain idiots, but since they would be detractors no matter what the occasion, let's just call them detractors. For the majority of the detractors, get someone to tell you what
Denver Post -- Louisa of Ogden, UT

Has this columnist been downtown? I went downtown on Saturday and spent my day at Olympic Square and the Ice Village. I didn't see a single mormon missionary passing out literature. I did, however, see people walking the streets with beer, a welcome change of pace. If anything, the mormon church has been going out of their way to be a non-presence on the streets. If you venture to Temple Square, well, you get what you pay for.
Kenneth Paige article -- Jared L. of Princeton,, NJ

I have been a correspondent for the last twenty years (Reuters, CNN, BBC) Mr. Page reminds me of the enterprising sports announcer who got tired of being cold and miserable watching and announcing the football games at the local college so figured how to sit in a nice warm studio and read the details of the game off the wire. With a little ingenuity and some sound effects he pulled it off for four games until his boss walked in to the studio at the wrong time.
In all honesty I doubt if Mr. Paige has even stepped foot in SLC this past week. I was with the Austrian contingency and they had seats at the stadium and saw the events he claims they missed.
I have yet to have a religious pamphlet forced on me by any religion and certainly not the LDS Church who have made it a point to take a very low-key image to the games.
Be honest Mr. Paige, how's the weather in Denver? You certainly haven't been in SLC.
Canadians Were Robbed -- Kenneth of Salt Lake, UT

There is no doubt in my mind that the Canadians were robbed of a gold medal by the judges. The crowd, commentators, and the other ice skaters all were confident the Canadians had won. I believe even the Russians who got the gold were supprised! I hate ice skating, but somethings wrong with the system!
Olympic Coverage -- Kent of Salt Lake City, UT

NBC's coverage of the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City is pretty good so far.
I am glad there is more competition being show and less vignettes. There is
only one thing that bugs me so far. Bob Costas is coming across as too
arrogant. His mocking of the performers before the awards ceremony really
stuck in my craw as well as some derogatory comments about the opening
ceremony and his impatience with some technical difficulties on opening
ceremony night. Otherwise the coverage is excellent and the visuals are
stunning.
