Monday Morning Traffic Advisory
Sunday, 2/24/2002 @ 10:45 pm

Streets and areas that were closed in order to facilitate Olympic bus functions and pedestrian walkways are scheduled to reopen tomorrow. These include Main St., areas along 500 S. and 1300 E., and most surface street parking. Heavy traffic is expected around the Salt Lake International Airport. Those departing from the airport should leave early to allow for delays.

Between Feb. 25 and Feb. 28, the removal of barriers and fencing will occur and streets will be opened when it is deemed safe for the workers and the driving public. Some of the closures and restrictions near the Main Media Center (the Salt Palace) and the Olympic Medals Plaza will stay in place until after the Salt Lake 2002 Paralympic Winter Games, March 7-16. A few restrictions will not be lifted until the end of March. In Park City, China Bridge and Swede Alley reopen Feb. 25. Main St. will reopen to vehicles by Feb. 27. Consult the downtown Salt Lake City section on www.utahcommuterlink.com for a projected schedule of when the road closures and restrictions will be lifted. Some roads, where structures were built, may require some temporary patchwork. With the traveling public's safety and impact on businesses a top priority, UDOT will return this summer and make any needed permanent improvements. Public transit will also return to normal, with regular UTA TRAX light rail schedules resuming on Feb. 25 and service to the Delta Center and Temple Square TRAX Stations starting again on Feb. 28. Additional a.m. and p.m. bus routes offered during the Olympics will discontinue Feb. 25. UTA's downtown fixed route bus service will resume regular schedules and routing in the downtown Salt Lake City area on Monday, March 4. Park City Transit will resume normal operations Feb. 25. UDOT will begin major restoration of the Utah Olympic Park, the US-40, the Soldier Hollow, the Utah Olympic Oval and the Mountain Green park and ride/walk lots immediately and continue as weather permits. -UDOT-
